Do you need school supplies for the kids? Maybe some office goodies? At least twice a week each of my daughters ask for supplies used for a project or homework. I usually have to get more tape, scissors, and dry erase markers for myself because my girls use them or loose them.
Where to go to get project supplies and such? All I have to do is head to the center of town and walk into Julio Verne. I am never at a loss for the supplies I need. This Librería is my first stop.
I had to really track the owner down. Don Hugo is a very busy man – always on the go. I finally was able to chat with him about how it all got started. In fact this “bookshop” has been in business for 35 years. His mother first began Julio Verde (named after the famous author Jules Verne) because there were no places that students could buy their school supplies.
Now there are 10 employees that help run this very active business. Someone is always there to help find what you need. Johana, an employee of 4 years, was so helpful during the few minutes I was waiting for the owner. She was happy to help answer a few questions while I was taking pictures. Miss Johana also was a sport by letting me take her picture! It is so nice to walk in, find what you need, and to be helped with a smile!
The one thing I have had to really get used to when looking for crafty supplies is – everything sold individually. Imagine buying pens for instance. You don’t just buy a package of your favorite rainbow colored pens. Each pen is sold separately. Also if you require poster board or other paper needs they too are sold individually. I now have it down.

Students, teachers, and parents alike are always needing a supply of some sort. Whenever I stop in it’s not unusual to see someone I know getting ready for their project etc. Julio Verne is a very popular place. Since they have been in business for so many years you know they understand what the customer wants and needs. What we need lately are paints for the girls art classes – Thank Goodness our Librería is always stocked!
So what kind of vision does Don Hugo have for this business of 35 years? A second location has already been set up near the market. Julio Verne has been built on the vision of everyone having the same opportunity to buy the best & newest supplies for all types of projects.
