I’ve got the blues for my birthday. Oh yes, blue orchids to brighten my smile! Thanks to a wonderful family I get to show off these beautiful flowers.
The picture here captures the orchids as is. They really are amazing! To bad I can’t bring them to Honduras with me. The girls would just love to have them with us. So, I have a friend babysitting them for me. They are in good hands and will see them again. I suppose my orchid babysitter gets to enjoy them as much as I have.
After receiving my special birthday gift I realized first, normally I don’t get flowers. Plus it’s great that they will continue to bloom. Second, I have never been given blue flowers before. It’s stunning at how beautiful they are.
After thanking everyone, I was starring at the intense color of these beauties. Reading the care instructions I noticed the name given: The Blue Mystique
I was automatically drawn to read about the “Mystique”. I love orchids, but really don’t know much about them. It was decided to learn more about my gift.
First, I learned that this blue orchid is not a true “blue.” They are not painted with a special paint either. Also they are not a hybrid. My understanding is, the orchids are injected with the color they show off. Honestly I never realized this was a possibility.
Next, I was kind of stunned to realize that there is sort of a debate on the Blue Mystique. The buzz is, customers were buying them and not realizing that they were not true blue orchids. Also, they were unaware that when they rebloom they are not blue, but WHITE.
Lastly, it really is a heated topic within the “flower industry”. Experts say it is a disgrace to growers that may use more natural methods to create living beauties. Yet customers seem to put this flower in demand.
In my experience I did assume that they were true blue orchids. I never thought about what color they would be when they bloom again. Of course it was assumed they would be the same color as received. Good to know, right! I was very surprised that injecting a flower with color could give these results. Finally, It is amazing that there are hard feelings from the flower business.
Personally, I am tickled “blue” with my beautiful, living flowers! Now my knowledge is more up to date on my Mystique gift. These orchids can still be enjoyed no matter how they were created. I will also get to enjoy them again on a trip back to the States. Thank you orchid babysitter for the good care you will give them!
Have you ever heard of the Blue Mystique? Would you enjoy them as a gift?
