Alex Gomez: In This For The Long Haul

I am so excited to introduce the business owner that will be the center of today’s chat. He is young, has great vision, and dreams for the future. It was a great pleasure to get to know someone like that!

Alex Gomez is the young business owner of Zona Digital here in the center of Catacamas. It is what I would call an internet café but without the coffee. He has established a way that the consumer, who doesn’t have access to today’s technology, can at their figure tips.

This young man has located his internet café in truly is a great place; right in front of the post office and just up the street from the park. Location is important and Alex has done it right. The residents of our town all know where to go for internet, copies, and a helpful staff.

How did it all begin? With his life savings, drive, and dedication he paved the way for success. I think that’s a great combination! Eight years ago Alex started Zona Digital with 6 computers – now he has 15. Those 15 computers see about 60 people on a slow day and a 100+ on more busy days. On Mondays & Tuesdays he has a group of 14 Jehovah’s Witnesses that use the computers for an hour. During this time they are able to catch up on life back home without interruption. They have the place to themselves.

Zona digital is run with 6 employees and is open every day of the week from 7 am – 9 pm. That is a long day. In all reality that is a long week. All of this hard work, plus very long hours has paid off to make this business thrive in the 8 years that it has been established.

Alex is in this for the long haul. He has a vision of expanding Zona Digital with a new location in the surrounding town Juticalpa about 40 minutes away. With even more hard work he is looking to make that vision come true in about 2 years. I asked him what he thinks has made is hard work pay off? His response was – CONSISTENCY. I found that so interesting and very true. He also added that having variability in products/services is very important.

Prices are reasonable and the staff is there to help with whatever they can. A great example is my husband. He is not very computer literate. There have been many times he needs to send pictures or an important email to family & friends is the USA. Instead of getting frustrated trying to do it by himself he asks one of the staff members and gets connected. He shows what info he wants sent and they just send it – without being charged. Now I call that great customer service!

I also asked Alex if there was any other things he would like to accomplish? His answer was not what I expected. He would like to set up a center for tourism of Catacamas. That is fabulous idea – I hope maybe even have it expand to surrounding areas or the entire country. I am on board!

It was really easy to chat with Alex. Not only did I learn a lot, but I think it just adds to my own vision for Honduras. Let’s get ready for some great success!
